D.C. State Board of Education President Robert C. Bobb won't be running for re-election in November.

Bobb didn't meet Wednesday's 5 p.m. filing deadline to get his name on the ballot. Election officials say he never picked up the necessary forms.

Earlier this month, he'd expressed misgivings about the board transitioning to an all-elected body. It currently has elected members and two mayoral appointees.

When Bobb was first elected nearly two years ago, the board had control of day-to-day school operations. Today the board operates more like a state board.

The board's role changed last year after D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty took over the public school system.  Bobb had pledged to resign if the mayor took over city schools, but he did not follow through.
