(Sports Network) - Kansas City Royals shortstop Mike Aviles left Sunday's contest with the Detroit Tigers due to a hand injury. Aviles was struck on the hand swinging at an Armando Galarraga offering with two down in the top of the seventh. The ball ricocheted off his hand and into fair territory and catcher Dane Sardinha tagged Aviles for the final out while the rookie writhed in pain on the dirt beside home plate.

He was 1-for-4 at the plate before exiting.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion? Tony Pena Jr. took over at short and replaced Aviles in the lineup.
