(Sports Network) - Beanie Wells had a memorable first practice for the Cardinals but it wasn't for his play on the field.
Rather, the rookie running back, who signed with the club on Saturday, was carted off the field after suffering an injury to his right ankle.
An MRI after practice revealed a sprain, though Wells is not expected to miss an extended period of time.
Chosen 31st overall in April's draft, Wells finished his three-year collegiate career at Ohio State by carrying the ball 585 times for 3,382 yards and 30 touchdowns. He ranks fourth in school history in rushing yards behind Archie Griffin (5,589), Eddie George (3,768) and Tim Spencer (3,553).
