(Sports Network) - FC Dallas acquired Honduran forward/midfielder Marvin Chavez on loan from Club Deportivo Marathon of the Honduras Primera Division on Tuesday.
Chavez will officially join Dallas pending a medical exam and receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P1 work visa.
"Marvin Chavez is a player that adds depth to our attacking options, and I think he'll be a good fit for our system," FC Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman said. "He's a very athletic and versatile player that can play in both the forward and attacking midfield position."
Chavez, nicknamed "El hijo del viento" (The son of the wind), spent the 2008-09 season with CD Marathon tallying 11 goals and 11 assists for the Honduran club. With Marathon, Chavez scored the game-winning goal against D.C. United to propel his team into the quarterfinal round of the 2008-2009 CONCACAF Champions League.
Before being transferred to Marathon in 2008, the Honduran international spent three seasons with Club Deportivo Victoria in which he recorded 23 goals and 17 assists.
The 25-year-old has earned 18 caps with the Honduran national team, making appearances in World Cup qualifying, the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup, the 2009 UNCAF Nations Cup and various friendlies. He recorded his first international goal in this year's UNCAF Nations Cup against El Salvador.
