(Sports Network) - The Texas Rangers designated pitcher Jason Jennings for assignment on Thursday.
The team now has 10 days to either trade, release or outright Jennings to the minor leagues.
Over 44 relief appearances this season, he is 2-4 with a 4.13 earned run average. Since the All-Star break, he is 0-1 with a 7.07 ERA in 13 games.
Jennings missed most of last season after undergoing flexor tendon surgery in his right forearm in May.
Over his nine seasons in the majors, which has included stints with Colorado and Houston, he has appeared in 225 games (180 starts) and posted a record of 62-74 with a 4.95 ERA.
To take his spot on the roster, the team purchased the contract of pitcher Pedro Strop from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Strop, 24, has yet to appear in a big league game. Over 47 relief appearances for Double-A Frisco and Oklahoma City this season, he is 6-6 with five saves and a 5.06 ERA.
