5-Year-Old Girl Drowns in Centreville Pool
posted 4:33 pm Sat September 01, 2007 - CENTREVILLE, Va.
Fairfax County police are investigating the apparent drowning of a five-year-old girl at a private pool in Centreville. Police say Jana Hammad of Clifton drowned at about 7 p.m. on Friday at Life Time Fitness. Lifeguards cleared the pool for a scheduled break. That's when the child's father realized his daughter was missing. She was found at the bottom of about four feet of water in the kiddie pool.

Lifeguards immediately started CPR, but the girl was pronounced dead about an hour later at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital.

I feel bad for the parents of the little girl but my question is this? WHy wasn't the father watching her like a hawk to begin with? When my son was that young, I never let him go into the pool without my husband or I being with him and I never took my eyes off of him. I don't want to brow beat the parents, they are hurting enough as it is, I'm sure. I have had problems with Lifetime in the past as well as the LifeGuards and have made a couple of comments before about them to management. They are all too young and are to busy worrying about who looks best in their bathing suit and where they are going friday night and quite honestly, when they do pay attention, they are to busy being on a power trip. They should have lifeguards there that are mature enough to handle being in responsible for so many lives. In my opnion, Lifetime as a whole has problems with hiring people too young to handle certain situations like the pool and rock climbing wall! I have complained before to coorporate and nothing has been done....hopefully they will listen now before another trajedy happens!
