they should keep the ban on guns. In the majority of the murders, the victim is rarely a law abiding citizen.

I do not see how allowing d.c. residents to own guns can help in the mulitple murders occuring in the District And until you can prove that allowing guns will benefit the city, I will remain against allowing guns in d.c. Show us how allowing a law abiding citizen to own a gun could have changed the outcome of the multiple murders occuring monthly. I stand for keeping the guns banned.

And for those who dont understand. I am aware of the ban on guns in DC. Although I now reside in MD, I lived in DC for over 20 yrs. My family never owned a gun and we were never victimized by guns. And I still do not own a gun nor do i live in fear.

TBA- most cops do carry bullet proof vests already.

Fenty- Read the constitution. If you do not support it, resign.

So, is it OK for only Democrat senators and their aids to ignore these laws? Why was there no ethics investigation when Senator Webb's aid tried to bring the senators gun into the Capital? And why were charges dropped for "lack of evidence?"

Lack of evidence? Video, testimony, the actual gun? Lack of evidence?

The Mayor should use his resources to get the guns out of criminals' hands instead of those who obey the law.

Speaking of kicking in doors, musician Carter Albrecht of Edie Brickell's band was shot to death early yesterday in Dallas when he tried to kick in the door of his girlfriend's neighbor. Albrecht had beaten his girlfriend, and his girlfriend then locked him out of the house. The neighbor mistook Albrecht for a burglar.

Served the witless dope right.

Here's one way to look at this, simply...

The bad guys have guns and being bad guys, don't really care about laws.

A gun is an equalizer - where a 75 year old lady can be trouble for a 25 year old guy kicking in her front door.

Otherwise, you have a pack of wolves preying on the weak -which is where we are now.

Allow D.C. to have guns then that means D.C. cops need to carry bullet poof vest at all times and carry semi-auto like a M16 or AK-47 all the time to battle against the drug lords. Like D.C. council Barry.

The 30 year gun ban has been such an outstanding help in making D.C. the crime free city it is. (please note the sarcasm here)

Repel this stupid law and watch crime rates return to normal.

Of course Mayor Fenty will appear the ruling. Can't have all those fine upstanding criminals put in danger of being shot by law abiding citizens while the criminals are plying their trade. If you look at the jurisdictions that have the stricted gun control, you will also see the highest crime rates. Hey, Mayor. Wake up and smell what you're shovelling.

Regardless of whether the Supreme Court takes this case or not, why does Mayor Fenty think the District can be selective about which parts of The U.S. Constitution it should recognize and adhere to? The Second Amendment clearly states that an individual has a right to keep and bear arms. How would they react if this were an issue of denying an individual's right to free speech? If, somehow, DC's gun ban is upheld it would have no affect on DC's high homicide rate. All this "stuff" only affects law abiding citizens. Criminals would still have easy access to guns via the "illegal gun market" and DC residents would continue to be easy prey for them.

Read the News lately? So exactly what good has the ban on guns in DC done?

The law abiding citizen is left with no way to defend themselves or their family so it is open season on the citizens by the criminals who couldn’t care less what the laws say.

And how many people were shot on one of those ‘all hands on deck’ Police nights, wasn’t it 7 in one incident. So neither the Police nor the Mayor can provide protection and the crime and gang activity has been unchanged but the gun ban has been in effect for a long time with NO EFFECT.

I'd rather be able to shoot back instead of calling "dial-a-prayer" (911) myself, but then again, residents of DC reside in a federal territory, not a state, which makes them subject to federal jurisdiction(admiralty / martial law). They basically have no rights at all, except the ones the judges decide to allow them to keep arbitrarily and administratively, in order to maintain the facade...

I'm not a "gun fan" myself; however, until the laws are changed where criminals are KEPT in jail once they're convicted and not turned back out on the streets, you can have all the gun laws you want and it won't make much difference.

One should take special note of the DC case Warren v. District of Columbia where D.C.'s highest court exonerated the District and its police, saying that it is a ``fundamental principle of American law that a government and its agents are under no general duty to provide public services, such as police protection, to any individual citizen.'' Warren v. District of Columbia, 444 A.2d 1 (D.C. Ct. of Ap., 1981). Basically what this means is that the responsibility to protect yourself and your family is ultimately up to you and you alone. DC's gun ban not only takes away DC Resident's right to keep and bear arms, but takes takes away a valuable tool that enables self protection. Also, the gun ban advertises that DC's citizens are easy defenseless prey...

Why does tns he lalaland liberals not trust its citizens, hello DC has a crime problem lets try something new.

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
