Manassas Officials Mull Immigration Measure
posted 12:33 pm Tue September 04, 2007 - Manassas, VA.
The city of Manassas could become the next Virginia jurisdiction looking to crack down on illegal immigrants.
Republican City Council member Marc Aveni says he wants to introduce a resolution that would deny public services to illegal immigrants and toughen local immigration enforcement.
Aveni spoke Monday as Prince William County officials defended their measure aimed at illegal immigrants, saying President Bush and Congress haven't handled the issue.
Several other Virginia counties have passes similar measures, including Loudoun, Culpeper, Spotsylvania, Stafford, Chesterfield, James City and Page counties.
