Three Killed in Shenandoah Valley Plane Crash

Virginia State Police have identified a family of three killed when their single-engine plane crashed just outside Shenandoah National Park.
Authorities have identified pilot killed in Thursday's crash as 46-year-old Lawrence Frederick Chapman The Third of Brunswick, Georgia. His wife, 45-year-old Robin Dee Chapman and 16-year-old daughter Katie Chapman.
The 1964 Piper fixed-wing plane departed from Georgia bound for Winchester and went down in a wooded area near Syria. The plane was registered out of Florida.
Authorities Saturday are still removing the wreckage from the remote area. The National Transportation Safety Board and state police are investigating the cause of the crash.
Federal Aviation Administration authorities called state police after they lost contact with the aircraft Thursday night. The wreckage was discovered Friday afternoon.
