   posted 11:17 am Fri September 07, 2007 -
Pepco is urging some customers in Prince George's County to conserve electricity by turning off major appliances and setting their thermostats to at least 78 degrees. The company is asking residents to reduce power consumption as it attempts to repair damage at a substation in Oak Grove. The damage has led to outages this week in the area between Upper Marlboro and Largo.

Pepco says about 25,000 customers lost power for several hours Wednesday after an equipment malfunction shut down a large transformer. About 8,500 customers were affected for several hours Thursday when a similar problem affected a second transformer.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion?About 2,800 customers were without power Friday after feeder lines became overloaded. The outages are affecting the County Administration Building, where all non-essential employees have been sent home.

County Executive Jack Johnson is concerned about the outages, saying residents deserve "prompt attention."
