   posted 12:28 pm Fri September 07, 2007 - Washington
The landlord of a dilapidated Columbia Heights apartment building is facing a criminal complaint after district officials alleged his building contains nearly 3,000 housing code violations.

Officials say they found deplorable conditions at David Cormier's building at 3228 Hiatt Place Northwest, including rat carcasses, caved-in ceilings, rotted floors, and even a tenant whose apartment didn't have a bathroom. The three-floor building's 22 units are mostly vacant, but a few tenants remain.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion?D.C. Attorney General Linda Singer says the building's conditions are "atrocious" and "unsafe in every way."

The 2,861 code violations were brought after officials said Cormier did not abate problems that were brought to his attention in the past.

With all that, they didn't condem this building? These problems were brought to his attention and he did nothing. I am sure that some one in this building is receiving Public Assistance or Section 8, can't he be charged? How long did he have to make the change. How long did it take the city to follow up on the improvements? No bathroom..they should have made more noise.
