Mayor Fenty Shuns Security, Rides Metrobus
posted 4:39 pm Mon September 10, 2007 - Washington
Mayor Adrian Fenty took another step Monday in his efforts to distance himself from the security details of his predecessors.
Fenty rode a Metrobus and a Metro train without any security, though he did have Councilman Jim Graham (D-Ward 1) or an aide with him.
The mayor used the bus to visit Cardozo High School in Columbia Heights Monday to promote next week's Car Free DC day.

On Tuesday, September 18, all District residents are encouraged to take public transportation or walk to work and school.
Fenty used Metrorail to return downtown, stopping to transfer at the L'Enfant Plaza station. Many passengers on the train say they were happy to see the mayor among the people Monday.
The mayor has also been spotted driving himself around town. On one occasion, Fenty walked into the WJLA/NewsChannel 8 studios by himself for an appearance on NewsTalk. Previously, he had been escorted by a security detail.
The Washington Post noted the change in an article a month ago.
