Police-Involved Shooting in Reston

Fairfax County police are investigating an early morning police-involved shooting in Reston.
Officers responded to Sunrise Valley Drive near Coppermine Road for the report of a single-car crash about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.
When officers arrived, they found a maroon, 4-door car with damage to the right side, facing the wrong direction on the road. Police say the driver, 26-year-old Rocky King, of no fixed address, had already called for a tow truck.

It is not yet clear, what happened between the time officers responded to the scene and when the shooting occurred but investigators say King allegedly brandished a weapon.
Authorities say at about 4:40 a.m., King was shot multiple times in the upper body.
The road was closed for several hours while police gathered evidence, including what is believed to be the suspect's gun lying on the hood of his car.King was medevaced to INOVA Fairfax Hospital, where he remains under guard while being treated for non life-threatening injuries.
Arrest warrants are on file charging King with attempted capital murder of a police officer and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. The warrants will be served as soon as he is released from the hospital.
Police say one officer was slightly injured during this incident.
The officers involved in the incident have been placed on paid administrative leave, according to the police department's standard procedures. Parallel administrative and criminal investigations are under way at this time.
