Elected officials in Ocean City have extended the moratorium on licensing and zoning for sexually oriented businesses. The extension will give officials more time to consider regulations recommended by city planners.

The original moratorium was approved in May after the opening of the resort's first sex shop. The planning commission then recommended regulations effectively limiting the businesses to one percent of the commercial land in the resort. A revised plan submitted Tuesday would give the businesses more options and possibly insulate the resort from a First Amendment lawsuit.
