Sheriff: Infant's Body Likely Abandoned Same Day
posted 10:21 am Tue September 11, 2007 - LEESBURG, Va.
Loudoun County authorities say a newborn baby whose body was found Saturday in a garbage truck in Great Falls was probably abandoned the same day in Sterling Park.
Sheriff's spokesman Craig Troxell says the truck began its route early Saturday with pickups at 15 homes in Sterling Park, in eastern Loudoun. The driver made additional pickups in Great Falls, in Fairfax County, and discovered the body while loading trash from a smaller truck into a larger one.
Fairfax police began investigating the death Saturday, and after evidence that the infant being abandoned in Sterling Park, the Loudoun Sheriff's Office took over the probe.
The cause of death hasn't been determined.
Troxell says authorities are concerned for the health of the mother.
