Wednesday's morning commute down Interstate-270 became a memorable moment for one Montgomery family.

A healthy baby boy was delivered near Exit 4, Falls Road, and the Wooten Parkway Overpass. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue crews were called to Southbound I-270 around 9:30 a.m. for a reported birth in progress.

Authorities say Tammi Fischer, a health room technician at Kensington-Parkwood Elementary in Kensington, saw the father in distress on the side of the road while driving to work.  Fisher saw the driver trying to flag down motorists and pulled over to help.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion? Moments later Fischer had delivered the newborn while his toddler brother looked on giggling with excitement.

County Executive Isiah Leggett praised Fisher, calling her "a true hero who helped a distraught family in an emergency situation that had a delightful outcome."

Mother and baby were transported to Shady Grove Hospital and are in good condition.

Yeah, that could be a deal breaker.

But really now, people do not CHOOSE to have their babies on the roadside, in the car just to get toys and clothes. She was probably scared out of her mind. Trust me, after 4 kids I KNOW, labor can sometimes just zoom right by, especially with subsequent pregnancies.
