Residents Look to Shut Down The Fun Fair

Some residents are calling for an end to the festivities at the Fun Fair.
The Fun Fair, on the 5th and K Street in Northwest bills itself as a simple adult video store but critics say it features prostitution, drugs, and violence. Mount Vernon Square resident Ruby Beane says she sees Fun Fair clients "having sex and selling drugs right under (her apartment) window all night long."
Cary Silverman from the Coalition to Shut Down Fun Fair says the Fun Fair does not have the correct license to operate and the neighborhood is not zoned for it. Neighborhood activists are currently planning a rally outside the store demanding they shut down within the next few days.
A spokesperson with the D.C. Attorney General's office says they are pursuing efforts to close down the Fun Fair and D.C. police confirm that there have been several prostitution-related arrests made around the area.
Management at the Fun Fair says that the enclosed booths in the rear of the store are for adult-video watching and declined to give further comment.
