posted 5:28 am Fri September 14, 2007 - FREDERICK, MD.
A Frederick County jury convicted asheriff's deputy Friday of torching his girlfriend's SUV in hopes of collecting insurance money.
It took the jury about two and a half hours to find suspended Sergeant Theodore Randolph Dorsey, of Knoxville, guilty of second-degree arson.
Prosecutors said Dorsey set fire to the Chevrolet Trailblazer, which belonged to former Brunswick police officer Elizabeth Lauren Anderson.
He hoped to use the insurance money to buy a 2003 Cadillac Escalade SUV.
Dorsey's sentencing was scheduled for November 9th.
The crime carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
Anderson was charged with arson, fraud and conspiracy several weeks after the fire, but prosecutors dropped the charges in November without explanation.
