Federal authorities have arrested 17 people on charges of operating a crystal methamphetamine ring in the Washington region.
The charging documents say an undercover officer bought drugs and firearms from several members of the group on more than one occasion.
The purchased firearms included a .50 caliber sniper rifle.
The suspects are from throughout northern Virginia and Montgomery County.
Jim Rybicki, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office, says the arrests took place at multiple locations starting just before midnight Tuesday and continued Wednesday morning.
The suspects are set to appear in court early next week.
