McCormick Remains Hospitalized After Ordeal
   posted 11:29 am Tue September 18, 2007 - Washington
Julian McCormick, the Bowie State University student who survived for eight days by drinking creek water and eating raw minnows after crashing his car, remains hospitalized in the district.

His mother, Peggy McCormick, tells ABC 7/NewsChannel 8 reporter Brad Bell that McCormick's injuries are more serious than previously thought, and that her son likely will spend another week in the hospital. The 18-year-old suffered what are called compression injuries as a result of hanging upside down and unconscious for two days inside his vehicle after he crashed into a ravine off Powder Mill Road in Beltsville.

Prince George's County Police, along with volunteers, spent eight days searching for McCormick after he disappeared while driving from Bowie State enroute to the University of Maryland College Park to pick up his girlfriend.

Julian told his parents he believes he spent two days upside down and unconscious in his car after he crashed. When he awoke, he told his parents, it took him two days to cut himself free from his seat belt with a pocketknife and three days before he could muster the strength to climb out the creek bed and ravine.

"He was able to tough it out, get through the water, climb up the hill, and I think it's just amazing," said James McCormick, Julian's father, last week.

After climbing out of the ravine, a passer-by spotted the injured McCormick lying on the side of Powder Mill Road and called authorities.

Hmmm....spareme - seems that if he had the Lord on his side, he wouldn't have wound up hanging upside down in a car and missing for a week.
