The D.C. Department of Transportation plans to re-evaluate the crosswalk across Wisconsin Avenue where a man was hit by a police cruiser Monday afternoon.

The man, who was about 70 years old, was struck in the 3400 block of Wisconsin Avenue, Northwest. The man was taken to the George Washington University Hospital where he is listed in serious condition. Law enforcement sources said two cars were traveling on Wisconsin Avenue, one stopped, the police cruiser did not.

The uncontrolled intersection does not have a stoplight or stop sign.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion?Witnesses say the officer was able to hit the brakes and did not strike the victim at full force.

The officer who was driving the cruiser has not been cited or punished.

A DDOT spokesperson says after the crash investigation is complete, an expert will visit the crosswalk to re-evaluate its usefulness.

Several residents have complained that the crosswalk is dangerous and that cars speed along Wisconsin Avenue. ABC 7/NewsChannel 8 reporter Jay Korff used a radar gun to spot vehicles traveling as fast as 49 miles an hour along the road on Tuesday.

Last I heard, the man struck by the police cruiser in front of Starbuck's IN the crosswalk died a couple of weeks ago from the injuries he sustained. Very sad.
