D.C. School Evacuated, Will Reopen Wednesday
posted 7:41 pm Tue September 25, 2007 - Washington
A school where a chemical odor caused 14 students to be briefly hospitalized will reopen Wednesday.
The students at Walker-Jones Elementary School were hospitalized as a precaution after complaining this morning of coughing as well as eye and throat irritation. Officials say none of the symptoms was considered serious. Other children were taken to nearby schools to resume class.
Investigators believe the students' symptoms were caused by a chemical such as pepper spray that might have been accidentally released inside the building.
School officials say the building has been thoroughly cleaned and the odor is gone.
Students from Walker-Jones Elementary were evacuated Tuesday morning.
