Elderly Alexandria Woman Attacked and Robbed

An Alexandria woman is recovering after a man snatched her purse and then came back to steal her car, 16 hours later.
The attacker wrenched 82-year-old Charlotte Ross' purse from her prosthetic left arm as she walked down her front steps, knocking her to the ground. The attack left her bruised and bleeding. "I have five sutures in my head," she said. But that was not the end of it. The attacker returned 16 hours later to take Ross' car, but police were waiting.
"We arrested him just a few blocks away," said Alexandria Police Chief Dave Baker.
The suspect is identified only as an 18-year-old T.C. Williams High School student who lives a few blocks away.
He was supposed to be in class when he was arrested.
Ross has been a crossing guard at Polk Elementary School for more than 40 years and is well known in the community. Neighbors are stunned that anyone would attack Ross.
"For a woman who's been serving the area and helping children, it's unfortunate that happened to her," said neighbor Katrina Johnson.
Police are looking at suspect for other similar crimes.
Charlotte Ross says she just glad police have made an arrest. "I do not think he should be out in society," she said. "I do not think we should suffer for his problems."
