Fairfax County (web|news) police are investigating an unusual attempted bank robbery at an Alexandria (web|news) grocery store.

It happened around 11 a.m. Friday at the Provident Bank branch at the Shoppers Food Warehouse in the 6200 block of North Kings Street.

Police say a man called the bank and demanded that money be left at a vehicle in the parking lot. The caller also said there was a bomb in the building.

Officers found a suspicious package in the store and management decided to evacuate the building. Detectives from the Explosive Ordinance Disposal unit determined that the package was a hoax device.

No money was turned over.
