Authorities say a Frederick County woman who let three small children ride in the trunk of her car in 2005 is in trouble with the law again.
Forty-year-old Lanora A. Lucas of Thurmont was charged with reckless endangerment and furnishing alcohol to minors.
One of those children, a 13-year-old girl, registered a blood alcohol level of .25, that's more than three times the legal limit in Maryland for adults.
She is accused of buying vodka for the teen's birthday celebration.
According to police, the party took place in May, in the woods behind Thurmont Elementary School. Two of the partygoers drank so much they were hospitalized at Frederick Memorial. A 13-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy were treated for alcohol poisoning.
Police say none of the teenagers are related to Lucas.
"Her children need to be taken away from her. Evidently, she's not responsible enough to have children," said Thurmont resident Winnie Payne.
Other residents reacted to the allegations with horror and disgust.
"That is definitely wrong. It shouldn't be. As a mother she should have more sense than to do something like that," said John Maschmeier.
"As a parent, you just have to know what's going on with your kids, where they're at and what they're doing and it doesn't seem like that is the case here," said Kimberly Moser.
In June 2005, Lucas let her 9- and 3-year-old children and the 8-year-old son of a friend ride in the trunk of her Volvo sedan. She was sentenced to 18 months of probation and community service as punishment for recklessly endangering them.
