Panthers rookie LB out for season

(Sports Network) - Carolina Panthers rookie linebacker Dan Connor will miss the rest of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
An MRI on Monday revealed the tear suffered in Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Connor had only seen the playing field on special teams in the first three games of the season, but was tied for the team lead with four special-teams tackles.
A third-round pick (74th overall) in last April's draft, Connor played in 45 games (39 starts) during his four years at Penn State and ranks as the school's all-time leader in tackles with 419. He also recorded 14 sacks, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and four interceptions.
Connor captured the Bednarik Award, which is given to the nation's top defensive player, after compiling a career-high 145 tackles for the Nittany Lions in his senior year.
