An 18-year-old daughter and her father are dead after what police say appears to be a murder-suicide.
Yellow crime tape now surrounds the Murray Family's brick house on Cricket Court in Waldorf. Police say the mother, who was at work at the time of the incident, could not reach her daughter by phone, so around noon Thursday she sent a family friend to check on her.
When the friend arrived, he found the father. After calling police, when officers arrived they found 18-year-old Jessica Murray in a bathroom. Police say she had been shot once in the torso and was pronounced dead on the scene. The girl's father, 39-year-old Christopher Murray, was found on the kitchen floor; he too had been shot. Police found a shotgun lying next to Christopher Murray.
Family and friends declined to comment.
The father, Chris Murray, was a project manager at Compel Construction in La Plata, and the family adopted their daughter when she was very young. The Murray's also have a son, who is in the fifth grade. He was at school at the time of the shootings.
