Intruders targeted three homes in one hour Saturday in Stafford County, ambushing elderly victims and stealing cash and jewelry, police said.
According to police, the men posed as workers to approach their victims, then burst inside the homes.
"They didn't knock on her door, they just barged right in," said Charles Thompson, one victim's son-in-law. He was carrying a rifle Monday, hoping to protect his 90-year-old mother-in-law.
"You read all the time about it happening other places, figuring it's never going to happen to you, but ... it does," he said.
There were three men at the door. They told her they were there to check the water.
Authorities say when the residents went to call police, the suspects ripped the phone off the wall.
Many residents were on alert Monday in the targeted neighborhoods.
"I'm very suspicious," said Lynn Martello, who always carries a gun. "Many people think it's extreme, I think it's wise."
She says she was the victim of a home invasion eight years ago.
Anyone with information about the suspects or their whereabouts is asked to call the Stafford County Sheriff's Office at (540) 658-4400.

I have been curious what would happen with all the illegal immigrants once the construction and home-building jobs dried up. I really don't see them returning to their impoverished villages south of the border. Idle hands ... not a good thing.
