(Sports Network) - D.C. United's Marc Burch has undergone a successful surgical procedure to remove old scar tissue from his ankle, the team announced Tuesday.

The defender's ankle developed cellulitis after a college ankle injury was re- aggravated several weeks ago. Burch is expected to miss two to three weeks.

Burch is in his fourth season with United and, this year, has played in 22 games (21 starts). He scored his first goal of the season on Saturday in D.C.'s 2-2 draw at FC Dallas.

He has also dealt out two assists in 2009. In his four seasons as a member of the Black-and-Red, Burch has played in 75 games (62 starts) and collected two goals and nine assists.

Dejan Jakovic also had successful bi-lateral hernia repair over the weekend by specialist Dr. Ulrike Muschaweck in Munich, Germany. He returns to D.C. this evening and will miss two to three weeks.
