(Sports Network) - Belgian teenager Yanina Wickmayer reached the semifinals at the 2009 U.S. Open on Wednesday.
The 19-year-old Wickmayer drove past fellow non-seed Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine 7-5, 6-4 on Day 10 of this fortnight.
Wickmayer will meet Wednesday night's Caroline Wozniacki-Melanie Oudin victor in Friday's semifinals.
The 50th-ranked Wickmayer won a tight first set against Bondarenko before the 23-year-old Ukrainian seemed to mount a comeback in the second set.
Bondarenko jumped out to a seemingly comfortable 4-1 lead in the second set before Wickmayer charged back to win five straight games, and the match. The strong Belgian converted on her first match point when Bondarenko netted one final forehand at the Billie Jean King USTA National Tennis Center.
The 6-foot Wickmayer, who advanced in 1 hour, 41 minutes, tallied 16 more winners (31-15) and two more service breaks (5-3) than her Ukrainian counterpart.
Wickmayer, who will turn 20 next month, gives Belgium two of the four semifinalists here, as her countrywoman Kim Clijsters will battle Serena Williams in Friday's other final four bout. Williams is the reigning U.S. Open champ and has won here on three occasions, while Clijsters was the 2005 winner in New York.
