(Sports Network) - The mighty Williams sisters, Venus and Serena, will play in their first U.S. Open doubles final in 10 years this weekend.
The fourth-seeded sisters snuck past a 13th-seeded Russian tandem of Alisa Kleybanova and Ekaterina Makarova 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 6-2 amid very windy conditions Thursday at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Venus and Serena await Friday's winner between top seeds Cara Black of Zimbabwe and Liezel Huber of the United States and third-seeded Aussies Samantha Stosur and Rennae Stubbs. Black and Huber beat Stosur and American Lisa Raymond in last year's finale at the Billie Jean King USTA National Tennis Center.
The Williamses own nine major doubles titles, including a U.S. Open one back in 1999. They captured this year's Australian Open and Wimbledon titles and have never lost in a Grand Slam doubles finale.
Sunday's champions will split $420,000.
