(Sports Network) - Oklahoma State has extended the contract of men's head basketball coach Travis Ford through the 2018-19 season.

The four-year extension brings the total length of the pact to 10 years, while his compensation for the 2009-10 season was boosted to $1.8 million. The contract calls for annual increments in salary that will have Ford making $2.8 million in each of the final four years.

Ford guided the Cowboys to a 23-12 record in his first year on the job last season as the program reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament -- the first such occurrence since 2005. OSU topped the Big 12 Conference in scoring and hit a league-record 327 three-pointers.

"Coach Ford did a tremendous job rejuvenating our basketball program in his first season," said Mike Holder, OSU vice-president for athletics. "He is committed to success for our student-athletes in the classroom and on the court, and he is committed to Oklahoma State University. We consider Travis a rising star in the coaching profession and look forward to his leadership for many years to come."

Ford took over at Oklahoma State after three seasons as head coach at the University of Massachusetts. He compiled a 62-35 mark over that period and included an Atlantic 10 regular-season co-championship (2007) and a runner- up finish in the 2008 National Invitation Tournament.

Ford has also been a head coach at Eastern Kentucky of the Ohio Valley Conference and NAIA Campbellsville University. At Eastern Kentucky, he guided the Colonels to a mark of 61-80 with an NCAA Tournament appearance in his final season of 2004-05.
