(Sports Network) - Florida remained the top team in the latest
Associated Press college football poll, while Houston and Michigan vaulted
into the rankings following victories on Saturday.

The Gators (2-0) received 56 first-place votes, the same number as last week,
and a total of 1,491 points from a nationwide media panel to stay atop the
poll. Florida has beaten up on Charleston Southern and Troy, but opens SEC
play next week against Tennessee.

Texas (2-0) kept the second slot with one first-place vote, losing one from
last week despite a 41-10 win over Wyoming. Southern California (2-0) took
away one of Texas' top tallies and remained third this week after its dramatic
18-15 win at Ohio State on Saturday.

Alabama (2-0) kept two first-place votes following a 40-14 rout of FIU and
held the fourth position for the second straight week, while Ole Miss moved up
a spot to fifth after sitting out this past weekend.

Oklahoma State had been fifth after its season-opening victory over Georgia,
but the Cowboys dropped a 45-35 decision to Houston in Stillwater and tumbled
11 places to 16th. Houston, meanwhile, moved into the rankings at No. 21. The
Cougars are ranked for the first time since September 1991.

Michigan also joined the poll for the first time this season at No. 25 after
its 38-34 win over Notre Dame. The Wolverines, unranked all of last season,
scored the winning touchdown with 11 seconds to play on Saturday and need just
one more victory to match their entire win total of three from last year.

Notre Dame, which had been ranked 18th, dropped out of this week's poll.

Penn State (2-0) joined Ole Miss at No. 5, moving up two spots after a 28-7
win over Syracuse. BYU, California, LSU and Boise State round out this week's
top 10, each moving up two spots thanks to Ohio State's loss.

The Buckeyes fell from eighth to 11th and are followed in the second 10 by
Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, TCU, Oklahoma State, Cincinnati, Utah,
Nebraska and Miami-Florida. While Oklahoma State had the biggest drop within
the poll, Cincinnati had the biggest jump, moving up six spots to 17th after a
70-3 dismantling of Southeast Missouri State.

Houston, Kansas, Georgia, North Carolina and Michigan are the last five teams
ranked this week. North Carolina dropped five spots after pulling out a 12-10
win at Connecticut.

In addition to Notre Dame's fall, Missouri also dropped out from 25th after a
27-20 win over Bowling Green. The Tigers had just joined the poll last week
after opening the season with a victory over Illinois.

Just two games next week feature ranked teams against one another. The first
is Thursday when Miami-Florida hosts Georgia Tech. The other comes Saturday in
Blacksburg, as Virginia Tech welcomes Nebraska.
