(Sports Network) - The Philadelphia 76ers signed free agent swingman Rodney Carney on Tuesday. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
"Rodney Carney is a player that we feel will mesh extremely well with our current personnel and in the up-tempo style of play that coach (Eddie) Jordan will continue to implement this season," Sixers General Manager Ed Stefanski said. "We think that Rodney is one of the most athletic players in the league who has the ability to stretch the floor and we are happy to have him back."
The 6-foot-7 Carney played his first two seasons in the league with Philadelphia before being dealt to Minnesota in July of 2008. He averaged a career-high 7.2 points and 1.9 rebounds in 67 games with the Timberwolves last season.
The 25-year-old was originally taken with the 16th overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft by Chicago, but was sent to the 76ers on a draft-day trade.
In three career seasons, Carney has appeared in 204 contests and has posted averages of 6.5 points and 2.0 rebounds.
