WASHINGTON - Three female teenagers are being sought by D.C. Police in connection with the stabbing of a Subway restaurant worker Wednesday. The moments before the attack were caught on tape.
Subway employees say the confrontation started as an argument when one of the females tried to eat McDonald's food in the Subway about 11:45 a.m. You can see the employee at the register exchange words with one of the females. We're told another of the girls stole potato chips.
The employee left the register to chase the females outside, where there was some kind of an altercation and the worker was stabbed.
Sheila Davis was across the street and saw the altercation, but says the gravity of the situation wasn't immediately clear.
"I heard a commotion. I thought it was kids fighting each other, you know, like they normally do after school, before school -- ain't nothing change through the years," Davis said. "But what got my attention was people saying 'Backup, backup' off the person and I didn't find out until a few minutes ago that it was a young guy, not another female, that they were fighting."
The video shows the employee who was stabbed re-enter the store holding his abdomen. Street cleaners rushed to his aid and he was taken to the hospital. His condition was not immediately available.
A witness described the assailants as three girls, ages 14 to 17. They fled on foot.
"They just kept on running," Davis said. "They looked back and they didn't see [anyone] behind and they kept right on going. But one of the young ladies did toss a weapon ... right at the corner of 8th and H."
It was unclear if police were able to recover the weapon.
"The kids today, I don't just don't know what's wrong with them,"' Davis said, lamenting the girls likely should have been in school at the time.
