(Sports Network) - Maryland men's basketball coach Gary Williams has earned a one-year contract extension, the school announced Monday.
The action extends Williams' contract, which includes automatic extensions for academic and athletic benchmarks, through June 30, 2013.
"I'm pleased for Gary that he met the competitive and academic benchmarks of his contract," said Maryland athletics director Deborah A. Yow. "The 2009-10 season has the potential to be one of the best in recent memory."
Williams' Terrapins teams have gone 418-229 in his 20 seasons as head coach, which includes a national championship in 2002 and an ACC title in 2004. He is the winningest coach in Maryland history, and overall owns a 625-357 record in 31 seasons as a head coach.
