Spareme: You seem to be saying two wrongs make a right. I condemn any action, weather it is white on black or black on white. You seem to be saying that the acts of the six blacks are justified because of some earlier incident where it was reversed. Why not say both incidents are wrong? Why is it always a hate crime when it is whites on black but not when it is blacks on white? I'm also sick and tired of people living in the past. People need to stop blaming the past for their circumstances today.

It's me again. The victim was not really a victim at all. He knew about the game and was willing to play this game. He was captured by a black boy in the other group. It led to this fight because this group (6 whites and 1 black) won the game and the other group (all black boys) were angry. Why wasnt this group (all black boys) suspended too? Also, why weren't parents called for a meeting with the Supterindent at all? They were told by video phone or email about their boys being suspended or kicked out? The parents should have been called to come to MSSD to talk with the Supt and Dorm Staff!!!!! Again, it was not a Hate crime! It was a game invented by two groups who agreed to call themselves KKK and Nazis. This led to a serious fight without any supervision at all. Fingers should be pointed to MSSD staff, not the boys....

I also think that the media shouldn't be allowed to use the term Hate Crime in its reporting until the investigation is complete. Hate Crime legislation is very rigid and it takes quite a bit of research and evidence to prove that a Hate Crime was committed. So remember, when the media reports a story that may have Hate Crime elements, it may not be one. Most news outlets emphasize "possible" Hate Crime when covering a story.

You are correct. Those stories received a lot of LOCAL press. However, I don't live in Utah or Colorado, but somehow I was bombarded every day with news about Elizabeth Smart and that Ramsey girl (I could go on with dozens more). You are also corect when you say that color shouldn't matter. You opened up that can of worms with you original post about the media and it's "objective" reporting and I responded accordingly.

etchasketch: You say they come to a stop for a white girl and no other. Have you been paying attention the last couple of days to the coverage in regards to the four missing black kids in this area. The coverage in this area was overwelming. In this case, it shouldn't matter what color you are when it is a child. It should get full coverage.

I find this very interesting reading several comments here.. I know the story better. The story has twisted over and over for the last few days. Both groups should be suspended.. not just one group. They started out with a game called "capture of the flag" with an agreement to call themselves KKK and Nazis and this led into a fight a few hours later. Where were the Dorm staff at that time from 1 to 4 am? It wasnt a hate crime at all... just a game with names that should not be used at all. I hope the boys have learned a lesson that calling themselves those names is a serious issue.

Beyond comprehension in my opinion. How can a group of DEAF students perpetrate a hate crime against one of their own based, albeit, on racial considerations?

There is no such thing as objective reporting. There's and old saying in the industry "if it bleeds, it leads". This means that stories with high "shock" value will always get the most attention. After all, reporting the news is only a business and businesses are only interested in making money, not being objective. Whenever a little white girl or woman goes missing, every news outlet comes to a grinding halt and covers the story extensively until there's some type of outcome. This type of attention isn't given to any other race because news co. executives believe that know one would care enough to tune in.

This is bull, no hate crime just SE going on over at this school and they all need to be charge, HEAR THAT!

What a great bunch of people at that esteemed institute...When they arent busy dictating policy to the administration, they detain and racially harass fellow students.

Lets see! A bunch of criminals close down the university and no action is taken against these criminals. I can't understand how these thugs thought they could get away with this. I also find it amazing how this was reported on WJLA news tonight. First words out of their mouth was "Possible hate crime committed by seven people - SIX of THEM WHITE". Why didn't they identify the color of the seventh - black. Seems like selective reporting to me and they do it all the time when the criminal is black. I also find it selective reporting when they immediately call this a "possible hate crime" but when the 6 black kids beat one white kid, no mention by them that it could possibly be a hate crime. How is that objective reporting?
