Maryland Officials Announce Human, Sex Trafficking Task Force
posted 7:32 am Thu October 04, 2007 - Hanover, Md.
The issue of human trafficking will be the topic of a training conference for law enforcement officials Thursday near Baltimore.

A new state law took effect Monday that expanded the existing pandering law to make sex trafficking of a minor a felony. The bill also strengthened the state's extortion law to allow the prosecution of labor traffickers. Baltimore City State's Attorney Patricia Jessamy is hosting the conference, and she and state Attorney General Doug Gansler plan to announce the creation of a statewide human trafficking task force.
