Two nine-year-old girls who were reported missing on Wednesday have been located safe and sound and reunited with their families after a 16-hour search.
Brittany Bennett and Deasia Wooten were spotted as they stepped off a Metrobus about 1:30 a.m. Thursday. Wednesday night by Prince George's County Police and placed in protective custody. Prince George's County Police notified D.C. police about the girls around 8 a.m. Thursday. On WTOP Radio's Ask the Chief program, Lanier said the investigation is continuing, but it appears the girls gave investigators the wrong names when they were picked up Wednesday. Lanier says the girls are safe and sound and have been reunited with their mothers.

The nine-year-olds had last been seen outside Rudolph Elementary School in Northwest, about one mile from the border with Prince George's County.
Police say Brittany and Deasia are close friends and say one of the girls was suspended from school before she went missing. Police believe the two girls ran away and were scared to come home.
"No one's angry; no one's mad at you, said Deasia's cousin, John Turner, during the search. "We need to go ahead and have you come home. Your parents want to see you. Your fathers, mothers, cousins, everybody wants to see you come home safe."
