Washington's Tony Award-winning theater is moving to northern Virginia for nearly three years while its permanent home is renovated and expanded.
Beginning December 28th, Arena Stage will present the rest of the season's shows at Arlington's Crystal Forum, an old movie house space being renovated as a 460-seat theater. Next season, the company will use the Forum as well as the Lincoln Theatre in Northwest Washington and possibly other locations.
Artistic Director Molly Smith said she is confident audiences will follow Arena Stage from its property in Southwest Washington to northern Virginia.
The renovation includes the addition of a third theater as well as rehearsal halls, classrooms, workshops for building sets and a full-service cafe.
Work is expected to be completed in the fall of 2010.
