Clemson Hopes to Regain 'Thunder' Against Virginia Tech
posted 9:33 am Fri October 05, 2007 - CLEMSON, S.C.
Thunder hasn't boomed so loudly this year and Lightning has just about fizzled for Number 22 Clemson, wich hosts 15th-ranked Virginia Tech Saturday.
The Tigers running game has yet to truly get going this year with James "Thunder" Davis and C.J. "Lightning" Spiller each battling their own issues. Davis is working through a shoulder stinger sustained in last week's 13-3 loss to Georgia Tech. And Spiller is fighting through some confidence issues about his preferred running style.
Clemson ranked near the top nationally in total offense last year, but is fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2007, averaging nearly 70 fewer yards on the ground than it did in 2006.
Davis is averaging 90 yards rushing a game this season and Spiller is running for only 40 yards a game in 2007.
