Residents Learn What to Expect During ICC construction
posted 10:51 pm Fri October 12, 2007 - GAITHERSBURG, Md.
Two lawsuits aimed at stopping the Intercounty Connector may still be under consideration, but state officials are planning to give the contractor permission to start major construction Tuesday.
State highway officials held open houses this week to tell area residents what to expect during construction of the nearly 19-mile highway. They say most work will be done between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on weekdays, but there may be some weekend and holiday work. There will be stringent noise restrictions on any overnight work. Trucks won't be allowed to haul dirt on local streets and workers will be
told to keep dust down.
The $2.4 billion highway connecting Gaithersburg and Laurel is slated to open by early 2012.
An agreement is under negotiation to delay work that would cause significant environmental harm until there is a ruling in the suits. A ruling is expected next month.
