Nationals Pitcher Shawn Hill Has Shoulder Surgery
   posted 12:46 pm Fri October 12, 2007 - Washington
Washington Nationals pitcher Shawn Hill had surgery on his non-throwing shoulder, completing the pair of procedures needed for him to return as the potential ace of the staff next season.

The right-hander had a partially-torn labrum in his left shoulder repaired Thursday by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala. Hill pitched most of the season with the injury, which occurred April 20 when he dived back into third base in a game against Florida.

On Sept. 27, Hill had surgery to decompress the radial nerve in his throwing arm and to clean up scar tissue in his right elbow.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion?Hill is scheduled to begin a throwing program in two months and is expected to be ready for spring training.

Hill, 26, went 4-5 in 16 starts this season with a 3.42 ERA, the best ERA among any Nationals pitcher who started a game.

The Nationals also outrighted infielders Tony Batista and D'Angelo Jimenez, right-handed pitchers Winston Abreu and Chris Booker, left-handed pitchers Mike Bacsik and Arnie Munoz, and outfielder Brandon Watson to Triple-A Columbus. The club also reinstated right-handed pitcher Jason Simontacchi from the 60-Day disabled list and outrighted him to Columbus.
