A 16-year-old boy died in a fatal car crash that sparked a house fire, just two blocks from his Forestville home.

Prince George's County authorities say the teenage driver crashed into a Pepco utility pole around 12:45 a.m. Saturday on the 7,200-block of Leona Street.

Crews on scene pronounced the driver, Ryan Waters, dead and transported his 17-year-old male passenger to an area trauma center in serious condition but non-life threatening injuries.

The crash sheered the pole in half, causing live electrical wires to spark a fire at a neat-by house.

Police believe speed was a factor.
Firefighters immediately responded and encountered a working fire in the walls and attic of the single-family home.
While battling the blaze, firefighters rescued a pet cat. The cat showing no signs of life, was given oxygen and was revived.
