Elderly Woman Dies in Two-Alarm House Fire
posted 7:37 am Tue October 16, 2007 - Mount Vernon, Va.
Fairfax County fire officials are blaming careless smoking for a fire that killed a Mount Vernon area woman. Fire spokesman Raul Castillo says the fire in the 8200 block of Trebrooke Lane was reported at about 5:20 p.m. Monday.
Firefighters found the victim in a second-floor bedroom.

Investigators believe she had been smoking in bed. The cause of the fire was determined to be improperly discarded smoking materials.
The woman's name is being withheld until her relatives are notified. An autopsy will determine the cause of death.
Two other residents of the home were displaced.
