Several Prince George's County residents were awoken Wednesday morning by a two-alarm fire at a Hyattsville apartment building.
Authorities report the blaze broke out about 9:30 a.m. at Cheverly Terrace Apartment complex on the 6,300 block of Landover Road.
Daisy Kanu said she had just come home from work when she smelled and saw smoke in her apartment. Kanu's cousin and roommate Osmere Sese only made it out of their apartment with what little he had on.
"No shoes, I was sleeping, only this," said Sese as he watched firefighters clear the area while standing outside in his bathrobe.More than 50 firefighters were called to the scene. Firefighters say they had to help rescue a man who was sleeping during the fire. He suffered minor burns and was treated on scene. Investigators say no one else was hurt.
It appears residents from 12 apartments are displaced.
Fire officials do not believe it is suspicious. They believe the blaze appeared to start on the ground floor and work it's way up.
