African-American Group Encourages Gay Marriage
posted 6:40 am Thu October 25, 2007 - BALTIMORE
A new organization has been formed by black leaders to work within the state's African-American communities to promote same-sex marriage.
The Maryland Black Family Alliance will be formally introduced Thursday at Morgan State University in Baltimore. Organizer Elbridge James says the black community has been reluctant to discuss the issue. The group hopes to change the minds of blacks who don't accept the parallel between gay unions and civil rights. The organization is expected to lobby black lawmakers in the state capital.
