Body shops have been raking in the business after the area got some much needed rain Wednesday and Thursday. The downpour took a lot of motorists by surprise with unfortunate results.
88-year-old Charles Gordon said if the drought has lasted a few more days, his Oldsmobile would be in his garage, not on the repai
r lot. "The lack of rain has made the roads fairly oily and once you get a little water on them, it turns them into a sheet of ice basically," said Mike Kozar from Joyce's Motors.
Across the region, body shops saw a spike in business when the rain came down. Some said it's actually busier than after a winter storm. Al Marshall from Specialty Auto Body, Inc. said, "You begin to get into more accidents then the snow because of the slipperiness of the road."
Gardeners and farmers welcomed the arrival of rain and so did some auto repair shops. "It's a great increase to us to our industry. As long as nobody gets hurt, that's the important thing."
Charles Gordon said he's also glad the drought is over, but he wasn't looking forward to the repair bill. "The front end will have to be fixed because the front wheel was damaged."
