Laurel Police Officer Struck by Car

A Laurel City police officer was injured Friday morning when he was struck by a car while investigating another crash.


The initial crash happened about 5:55 a.m. near the intersection of Route 198 and Route 197 in Laurel. Investigators say about 6:40 a.m., the officer was about the clear the scene when a van traveling westbound struck the officer. Police say the driver was looking at the road flares and not paying attention to the officer.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion?The injured officer was flown to Baltimore's Shock Trauma hospital with lacerations, but no broken bones. The officer could be released Friday.

Investigators interview the van driver. So far, no charges have been filed.
