Police Officer Pleads Guilty to Credit Card Theft
posted 9:32 am Fri October 26, 2007 - WASHINGTON
A D.C. police officer has pleaded guilty to attempted bank fraud after prosecutors said he stole a credit card from a home when he responded to its alarm.
Twenty-five year old Donnay Davis responded to the alarm in August in Northeast Washington home while the owner was away, and a neighbor let him in. The homeowner then learned from her bank about suspicious activity on her card and got the phone number of a man who had tried to change her personal identification number. The name on the voicemail she called matched the officer's name she got from police. According to his guilty plea, Davis says he put a lot of effort into getting the woman's personal information so he could use the card. He was even videotaped trying to get money. He tried to withdraw $1,700, but ended up getting nothing.
Davis will be sentenced in January and agreed to resign from the police department as part of the plea agreement.
